Our Story

Techstone was born when builder Hans van Andel restored a home in Orient Street, South Fremantle. Hans wanted to install a beautiful period limestone fireplace, only to find out that it would take too long and was too difficult for a stonemason to create the desired tailored fireplace. Neither could it be bought or made in Australia, it was this frustration that led to the spark of a new career and business.

After the efforts in renovating the 1895 home on Orient Street, the city of Fremantle presented him with its Heritage Award in 1992. Already an expert in the building trades before becoming a builder, Hans loved renovating properties. His particular love for ornate limestone craftsmanship and preserving period features and characteristics created Techstone Moulding. Hans realised the potential for the quick and cost-effective method of providing period pieces, fireplace surrounds, outdoor tables and landscaping options for homeowners, builders and architects.

Flexible Design

The flexibility in our manufacturing process provides a wide range of design options that can be realized at a great price. Builders and architects recognise the value of the reinforced Techstone reconstituted limestone colonnades and other ornate structures possible for your home.

We are able to match the colour of your piece to the colours of the surrounding features in a house or garden by tinting the mix in our manufacturing process. The finished product, once hardened can also be polished to create a smooth finish.
